Over the process of this project I learned many interesting facts
not only about Gawain, but the entire midlevel era in general. Sir Gawain I
learned was related to King Arthur, his nephew in fact. In almost all the
stories that focus on Sir Gawain would usually involve him battling some
strange mystical creature, or perhaps going on some wild adventure. Gawain was
always a man who was known for following the Knights code of chivalry. He did
what he was expected to do. He was truly an honorable knight that had the
privilege to sit around King Arthur’s round table. Gawain always did the noble
thing. In the very famous tale of Gawain and the Green Knight, Gawain was the
only man who had the courage to take the mystical man’s challenge. He took the
challenge knowing that it could possibly endanger his life, but he did it
anyway. Gawain as well as many other noble knights did what they had too for
their kingdom. I also learned what the code of chivalry actually meant to
certain knights. It was a way to show your true and noble love for the kingdom
they’re a part of. To become a knight in the medieval times, you didn’t only
have to have strength and unconditional courage, but also the ability to follow
such a code. The knights who followed the code were able to control their
aggressive sides, especially when needed to most. I also learned of the women
back in these times. Now, in the twenty-first century, women can do just about
anything men can do. They can own business’s, buy property, or even be a part
of our countries armed forces and protect their country just as any noble
knight would do. But back during the Arthurian time period women, even King
Arthur’s queen, didn’t have a say. Their one and only priority was mainly to
please the king and his knights. It was one way that the women could prove
their loyalty to the country and the men who fight for the country. It was
always the men who participated in battle and even the fun of a jousting
competition. Jousting was a big hit back in the Arthurian time era. What it was
is two knights in their armor get on horses and run full speed at each other
trying to knock their opponent off of their horse by using a lance. It was a
way that men could prove their bravery by not pulling away from a joust.
Jousting was often held at many festivals and many knights would participate in
a competition. I learned many different aspects from this project. This
includes everything from the life of an average person/knight in the Arthurian
time period, all the way to specific characteristics about the very famous
knight, Sir Gawain. I learned how
Gawain was always the one who battled the mystical creatures such as the green
knight, Carle the Carlisle, and even Jack the Giant. He is one of the most
famous knights to ever sit around the round table for King Arthur for his noble
acts of knightly hood and hopefully this website was of an
assistance.
